Charity Summer Fayre

Our Tunbridge Wells branch Funeral Arranger Anita Wilson organised a summer spectacular Charity Fayre in aid of PAPYRUS, Prevention of young Suicide on Sunday 25 August at the Cross Keys Pub in Southborough Tunbridge Wells.

Suicide is the biggest killer of young people – male and female – under 35 in the UK. Every year many thousands more attempt or contemplate suicide, harm themselves or suffer alone, afraid to speak openly about how they are feeling. PAPYRUS is the national charity dedicated to the prevention of young suicide.

Anita was assisted by fellow team members Mel Harris, Sam Wasmuth and Lorraine Curtis who supported their colleague in her quest for such a worthwhile cause.

A total of £482.60 was raised by various means including Tombola  Guess the weight of the cake, Name the teddy, Guess the number of sweets in the jar, Bouncy castle and Darts throw. There was also live singing for the adults throughout the afternoon  and Tara Hawkins from Hartbeeps (who also helped organise the event) which provide baby and toddler classes in Tunbridge Wells provided entertainment for the children with music and fun props. There was also face painting and bubbles.

Anita said: “I have always worked alongside young adults and feel that  on occasions some  of them need charities like Papyrus to give them support when they are having a tough time. I hope to do more fundraising for this amazing charity in a few months’ time.”
