When a person dies it is often the case that their loved ones want to help raise money for a cause close to the person’s heart or one which helped during their life.

Since January 2016, Anita Smithers, Funeral Arranger at James & Thomas Funeral Directors in Merrow and Woking Funeral Service, has helped raise over £56,000 for various charities through setting up Spirit Tribute pages for 368 families across six branches.

Anita said: “Our free Spirit Tribute pages are a wonderful way for families to share memories of a loved one and include a link to collect donations for a special cause.

“They are really simple to set up and families can add personal touches such as stories or a piece of music which reminds them of the person and the page can be shared to help raise money.

“I have had amazing feedback from our families who have used this service. It’s incredible how much money can be raised; one tribute had over £5,400 of donations for a local hospice, which was brilliant.”

To recognise the work Anita has done to support these families, Chief Operating Officer Sam Kershaw presented her with a bottle of wine to say thank you.
