What Mum Means to Me

Funeral Director Marie Maylett and Funeral Arranger Luke Farrell McCartan asked the children of Abbot Community Primary School in Collyhurst to share their thoughts in words on what ‘Mum means to me’ for a Mother’s Day poetry competition. The branch collaborated with the school last year for Harvest Festival which was such a success that 30 children entered for Mother’s Day.

Marie said: ‘The poems made us laugh and cry at the same time. We gave something to every child that entered and we are looking forward to working with the children again soon.’

The winners were chosen by Luke and Regional Administrator Jean Kerins with Marie then being invited back to hand out the prizes.

First prize was a spray of flowers and a teddy bear

Second prize was a teddy and chocolates

Third prize was a teddy and chocolates

And all the other children received a bag of sweets

There are lots more community activity planned including the annual Eater egg collection for a local specialist ad support school, a sock collection for St Joseph and Mary House and the team are hoping to raise £200 for Dementia UK through a sponsored walk on 19th May.
