Weekly Community Roundup – 6th November 2020

Remembrance and the Poppy Appeal

Every year we take part in and organise Remembrance events in support of the Royal British Legion and to honour both fallen and serving members of the Armed Forces community.

Whilst we may not be able to do everything, we would normally do at this time due to Covid-19, we will continue to do what we can and our windows will be decorated to show our support.

Treats for Local Hospice

Funeral Arranger Joanna from John Blenkiron & Sons Funeral Directors in Barnard Castle donated items to St. Teresa’s Hospice in Darlington that will go into care packages.

Due to Covid-19 Joanna was unable to enter the hospice but knows that the donation was very well received and hopes to continue with other similar small acts of kindness within the community during such an uncertain time.

Remembrance Garden

Diamond & Son Funeral Directors have created a Remembrance Day garden at the front of their funeral home where local school children and members of the community can decorate stones and add them to the garden. The stones could have messages of support for serving members of the Armed Forces or messages of remembrance for those who have sadly lost their loves in conflict.

Local Children Provide Artwork For Remembrance Display

Elizabeth Way & Company Funeral Directors in Mossley have decorated their windows in support of the Royal British Legion and to honour both fallen and serving Armed Forces Personnel with a little help from some friends.

The team asked local school children to provide artwork for their Remembrance window and they certainly weren’t disappointed!

With an incredible 252 pictures, they have not only decorated all of the windows at the funeral home, but they have also covered an entire wall.

Thank you to all the children who coloured or painted a picture, it has created a powerful piece of art that will be enjoyed by all who see it.

Community Remembrance Window

Torbay & District have decorated their windows in support of the Royal British Legion and to honour both fallen and serving Armed Forces Personnel.

Funeral Director Sarah Lockton appealed to members of the local community to knit purple poppies and approx. 300 were submitted.

Local artists also leant their talents to the window in the form of the painted war horse, the dog made from pottery, and the black horse bowing to the cross which was made out of acrylic.

The window was a real community effort, thank you.
