Mother’s Day Flower Giveaway

W. Storey Funeral Service are giving away three bouquets of flowers for Mother’s Day. The flowers were kindly donated by The Flower Box. To enter participants were asked to share the post and leave the name of the person they would like to nominate. The winners were then chosen at random on Thursday 24th March 2022.

Cleaning up the local community

Spring has sprung at William H Painter Funeral Directors in Erdington.

A selection of plants have been added which will flower again next year, with some remaining throughout the year.

An unloved area has been given a new lease of life thanks to the green fingers of Funeral Arranger David Ford.

Hamper donation

Melia Powell Funeral Service donated a hamper to the K-Town Shopper Weekend to support the local community.

Ticket Giveaway

Walker & Morrell Funeral Directors gave away 2 tickets to Washington District Youth ABC at The Westwood Social Club on Friday 18th March 2022. Walker & Morrell are proud to be sponsoring a bout during the evening, to help local children develop their boxing skills.

The winner was drawn at random and announced on Wednesday 16th March.

World Book Day

uneral Arranger and Administrator Carla Weatherall played a literary game of hide and seek with her local community in honour of World Book Day on 3rd March.

Carla gave the gift of reading by hiding 10 children’s books in the local community for people to find.

A little message on the front read ‘You can find magic wherever you look, sit back and relax all you need is a book.’

Carla and the team at Melia Powell Funeral Service had lovely feedback, from a local lady.

“I’d like to say a big thank you to Melia Powel Funeral Services who left 10 books around the village, including our shop and to your lovely volunteer who made it a lovely game for my 3-year-old.”

Valentine’s Day window

The February window display at HAVEN in Hayes was dedicated to Valentine’s Day.

Saving Street Dogs in Romania

The team at John Blenkiron & Sons Funeral Directors were quick to show their support when an appeal was put in the local newspaper on behalf of a local resident.

The appeal was for donations to two charities that help Romanian Street Dogs, Gabriela’s Souls and Paws Animal Rescue and ODD (Old Damaged and Disabled) Animal Rescue.

These charities are dedicated to saving street dogs in Romania, many of which have been abandoned or abused as well as supporting people in the UK to give dogs a loving forever home.

The team donated dog food and leads to the appeal.

Mother’s Day chocolates for Pre-schoolers

Teams across the South West London area have been showing their support for the people of Ukraine by acting as drop-off points for community donations.

Items such as bedding, clothing, medical and sanitary product, children’s clothes, and nappies have so far been taken to the White Eagle club in Balham where they will be flown to the Polish, Ukraine border for refugees.

On Saturday 5th March Funeral Arranger Helen McCluskey volunteered at a coffee morning in aid of fundraising for Ukraine.

St James Parish church, Slaithwaite held the coffee morning where Helen served refreshments and a total of £1800 was raised for the British Red Cross and British Ukrainian Society respectively.

Robert Nuttall Funeral Service in Rochdale become a donation point for the Ukrainian Crisis Appeal.

The branch is listed as a donation point on Rochdale Online and the generosity from the local community has been overwhelming.

Donations of nappies, first aid kits, sterilising kits, baby milk, food, alongside clothing and toiletries were taken to the Polish Centre in Bury.

National Day of Reflection 2022

To mark the second anniversary since the first Covid-19 lockdown in the UK Aaron Black Funeral Directors created a simple yet stunning window display using candles, yellow ribbon, forget me not seed and pots of love in the window with a sign inviting people to pop in and pick up an item to help them remember their loved ones on the day and after.

People could also write a message on a little wooden flower and hang in on the heart tree.

Mini Gardeners World

Funeral Arranger Joan Wain took a variety of items to Flanshaw Junior & Infant School for their after-school gardening club. 

From trowels to troughs, Joan covered all bases and was even able to collect donations from a local resident who was moving house and wanted to give her unwanted garden items a good home.

Mother’s Day window

Hemming & Peace in Alcester have utilised their window space to create a tribute in honour of Mother’s Day which we recognise can be a particularly difficult day for so many.

Pet Rescue

Sarah Harris, Funeral Arranger at Paul Capper organised a local drop off point for pet food at the Eastleigh funeral home for local animal charity Second Chance Animal Rescue. 

Sarah put up posters in local shops and supermarkets and the Paul Capper Eastleigh Facebook page.

Mother’s Day window display

The team at Merstow Green have created a bright and friendly window display in aid of Mother’s Day and are inviting passers-by to take a bunch of daffodils to give to a special lady in their life.

The focal point in the Roy Quinton Funeral Directors window display in Walsall is a Mother’s Day memory tree where families can hang a message.

The knitted hearts are also available for anyone who would like to place one with their loved one and keep one for themselves.

The daffodils are also in full bloom which makes this display look fresh and vibrant.

Floral Tributes

Three families from the villages of Galston, Newmilns and Darvel who had recently lost their beloved mums were a beautiful basket of flowers as a gesture for their first impending Mother’s Day without their loved one.

We were hoping to hold a charity car wash on 8th April to raise funds for Meningitis research- a charity close to Jamie’s heart.

Movie Night

The team at W Storey Funeral Service delivered 250 bags of popcorn to a local school, for the children to enjoy a movie night with their friends.

After the past few years, the children deserve some nice things to look forward to. W Storey would also like to say a big thank you to The countryside cart for kindly donating the bags.

Thanks to the local community’s generosity, Turners Funeral Service has collected over 100 bags of items to donate to Ukrainian refugees.

Turners Funeral Service has been overwhelmed by the amount of support and is now unable to accept any further donations.

Elizabeth Way & Company Funeral Directors in Ashton-under-Lyne are asking the local community to donate children’s clothing, new socks, new underwear, travel-sized toiletries, baby milk, sleeping bags, and coats for the Ukrainian refugees.
